Happy Holidays!

Hi, it’s Soup, and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!  Tell me how your holidays were in the comments, so we can all chat about the holidays together!

As for my holidays, I celebrated Christmas with my dad, and got a really special gift for Christmas.  My dad bought me a 3D printer, which has really changed my art goals since I’ve started using it.  I’m definitely considering 3D modeling as a more interesting option for art now that I can create physical objects from it.

I have a few updates since the last post I made as the week has gone by.  Firstly, the Christmas Game Jam ended, and I… did not finish.  Actually I didn’t even get close.  However, I really want to keep going, so I’m going to keep working on it along with my other game ideas!  I also have a game for school that I need to make, so I really need to get working on that.  I’ll need to use my new planner to figure that out.

Because yes, I got a planner!  I used to use planners all the time, but I got out of the habit a few years ago.  But with all the projects I have and all the progress I want to make in my art for 2025, I need to start up the habit again.

So far, my hopeful habits for the new year include:

  • Blogging

  • Streaming on Twitch

  • Writing Short Stories

  • Posting Art Weekly

  • Drawing Everyday

  • Drawing Realistically

  • Learning to Draw Animals

  • 3D Modeling

  • Painting

  • Making Comics

Yeah, it’s a lot of habits, so some might fall through, but hopefully not all of them.  To keep myself accountable, I might use this blog to keep track of what I’ve done each week.  So, for each blog, I should be able to report a 3D model, realistic drawing, animal study, and at least one other drawing.  Hopefully that won’t be too much for me to do.

I’m also hard at work on my capstone project, which requires me to make a bunch of different comics.  I want to have 24 mini comics by April, so I’m going to need to make one every 5 days.  That seems a bit stressful, but hopefully I can get it done.

Speaking of comics, I also started two new comic projects!  I began a digital anthology with a group of comic artists, and I started work on a short comic working with a writer based on a fantasy legend.  I’m hoping to really get into the flow of making comics soon, so I’ve got to get working hard on that.

I’m also really close to hitting 150 followers on my Instagram (mushroom_soupcat), so I’m making two art challenges to celebrate.  One is fanart for a fandom I have a lot of followers from, and the other is original art from my comic Tvornik.  Note to self; I need to start promoting this blog on social media.

I think those art challenges are going to be my main art for the week.  As for realism, I think I’m going to do a portrait of myself, and then an animal study of wolves.  I’m really bad at drawing animals, so I desperately need to get into the habit.  And for the 3D model, I might honestly retry the donut tutorial.  It’s been a while since I last did it, and, for now, I really need to relearn modeling.  I might take the tutorial one episode at a time to get the hang of it, but I’ll try to actually remember how to do it this time.  The other pieces like texturing and rendering are also important for art as well as games, but those are less important for me as of right now.

I’ll update you next week as to how the new year is going, and how my art habits are coming along!  Have a good week.

Thank you! I'm really excited about 3D printing too! I tend to use Godot, but I also need to learn Unreal. I'm not much of a programmer, but I often end up in the job when I'm not in my game class.
